Science Fiction. Horror. Comedy.
An extinction level event happens. What do a couple of Valley girls do? Head to the mall, like, for sure. Totally. Are you ready for an extended post-apocalyptic ‘shopping’/makeover montage set to Tami Holbrook’s version of the song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”… made [more] famous, of course, via Cyndi Lauper?
Well… This. Is. Your. Film.
I had a very Berenst(e)ain Bears Paradox moment while watching Night of the Comet. Did another rendition of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” always exist? I’m not sure… but it does now! And it’s pretty damn similar to the Lauper version.
Large Hadron Collider, I’ve got my eyes on you.
What? Who? Little ol’ me? I’m not responsible for the bleak timeline everyone is experiencing. Not a darn bit. *whistles
Halloween movie #4 is cult classic Night of the Comet. A simple story: A once in a millennia comet appears and seemingly wipes out humanity. A video game junkie, her cheerleader sister, and a truck driver are the last people around.
What can I do to sell you on this movie without spoiling a damn thing?
Let me sell it with this one image:
You want shopping sprees? You got ‘em.
You want disc jockeys, abandoned radio stations, and 80s radio hits? Check.
You want some montages? Motherfucker, there are montages a’plenty.
Zombies? Maybe! Gotta tune in to find out.
If you’re not sold now… you’re never gonna be sold.
Night of the Comet is hilarious, funny, weird, science-y… and a downright blast.
Crooked scientists? Coming…right… up.
Of 80s movies with “Night of” in the title this is a close #2 (perhaps a tie) with Night of the Creeps.
High quality performances. Great effects. Gorgeously shot. The sequences of a desolate Los Angeles are paradisiacal.
Pop your popcorn, throw on a slap bracelet, and drink a few Bartles and Jaymses. It’s time for you to enjoy Night of the Comet.
Now streaming on Amazon Prime.
Go! Now! Watch it!
